Long distance routes in Scotland

Lochs & Glens

Many of these routes link up

really well.

How about a

length of

Scotland ride?

Berwick upon Tweed

to Edinburgh

to Perth

to Aviemore

to Inverness

to John O'Groats

to the Orkneys

to the Shetlands?

All on Sustrans-marked cycle routes.

431 mile route from Carlisle to Inverness, via Galloway, Ayrshire and Glasgow (Southern map), then Callander, Pitlochrie and Aviemore (Northern map). A ride of extraodinary range, from the coasts and hills of southern Scotland, through the wild, high Cairngorm mountains. Finishing at Inverness, the 'capital' of the highlands, or joining on to the Aberdeen to John O'Groats route for the more adventurous!

Edinburgh to Aberdeen

170 mile coastal route from Edinburgh, over the Forth Road Bridge, via the beaches and fishing villages of Fife and Aberdeenshire, finishing in Scotland's third largest city of Aberdeen.

Aberdeen to John O'Groats

The Salmon Run

54 mile route from Dundee on the Firth of Tay, following the path of the river (and the salmon) via Perth and Dunkeld to the highland town of Pitlochry, where it links in to the Lochs and Glens route.

Bike Scotland routes

The hugely popular Bike Scotland guide books. Book One has forty routes in central Scotland, while Book Two has forty classic highlands and islands routes.

The Isles & Highlands

Four different long-distance routes around the western isles and highlands of Scotland.

Clyde to Forth

171 mile route from the west to east coasts of Scotland, passing through Glasgow and Edinburgh. Starting at Gourok on the Clyde, with views across to the Highlands, the route follows a traffic-free path almost to the centre of Glasgow, then follows the river Clyde east of the city. Beyond Airdrie another traffic-free route carries you across the central plateau through a much admired sculpture trail. Then down through a country park and canalside trails into Edinburgh.

Oban to Camp-beltown

120 mile beautiful scenic route from Oban down through the Kintyre Peninsula (altogether now, Mull of Kintyre...) to Campbeltown.

Sea-lochs, fresh-water lochs, forests and hills - a gorgeous ride.
